Nothing beats seeing a movie on the big screen. The plush reclining seats. The crystal clear projections. Don’t forget the mouth-watering smell of buttery popcorn. Right now, theaters are booming with so many exciting blockbuster hits. Whether you’re interested in horror, action, drama, romance, or want to get quality time with your kids watching a family-friendly choice, there’s a new release for every occasion. Here are 7 new movies you have to see on the big screen now
Elvis
Based on the life and times of the late “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” Elvis is the biopic you never knew you always wanted. Baz Luhrmann has taken his directorial style and brought it to Elvis with fast-paced, quick cuts and flashy musical moments. If you’re a fan of his films, such as Romeo and Juliet, The Great Gatsby, and Moulin Rouge, then you’ll love Elvis. Told from the perspective of Elvis’ longtime promoter, Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis follows the titular character from his early days in Memphis, Tennessee, and Mississippi, where he first fell in love with Black Gospel Music and Rhythm and Blues. Then we see his rise to stardom in the 50s, to his time in the Army. We watch as this incredible performer makes his ultimate comeback with his 1968 comeback special. It ends as he conquers his residency in Las Vegas before his untimely death in 1977.
Hollywood.com’s Natalie Daniels analyzes the common themes of Baz Luhrmann’s films, and Elvis is no different. “If you’ve seen Moulin Rouge!, The Great Gatsby or Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes’ Romeo + Juliet, you’re probably aware of Baz Luhrmann’s larger-than-life, hyper-realism style,” she writes. “Elvis captures the same grandiose essence with fast-moving scenes, bright lights, and an ear-catching soundtrack.” Checkout these tweets below if you still need convincing.

Thor: Love and Thunder
You loved him when he had no memory of who he was after being banished to earth in Thor. You rooted for him when he was battling the Dark Elves during their attempt to plunge the universe into darkness in Thor: The Dark World. He learned how to work with a team when he joined the Avengers. Finally, you hooted and hollered when he wielded Stormbreaker in Thor: Ragnarok. Now, join him on his most perilous mission since his battle with the mighty Thanos, as he embarks a quest to find inner peace after turning over the rule of New Asgard to Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Thor: Love and Thunder sees our overweight hero facing off with Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) with the aid of his friend’s Korg (Taika Waititi), Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), and Jane Foster, The Mighty Thor (Natalie Portman), with a special appearance from The Guardians of the Galaxy. Thor: Love and Thunder is a favorite among fans and critics alike. In a review from USA Today, writer Brian Truitt calls Thor: Love and Thunder “a superhero romantic comedy with plenty of rippling biceps, an unshakable love for 1980s action movies and heavy metal, and most importantly, a big goofy heart.” Sentiments felt all around Hollywood.com for sure.
#ThorLoveAndThunder SHORT REVIEW.
Another fun, action-packed chapter in Thor’s long MCU journey. My expectations were exceeded.
With perfect blend of comedy, character-driven stories and fantastic fight scenes, Thor Love and Thunder is one of the best movie in this phase. pic.twitter.com/0m1wImetSI

Top Gun: Maverick
The skies have never looked hotter. After 35 years Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is still flying high as the Navy’s premier test pilot, doing whatever he can to avoid being promoted in an effort to avoid being grounded. Now, Maverick is being called upon once again to train a new batch of Top Gun recruits for a mission that’ll test their strength and will. Along the way Maverick will have to face ghosts from his past that he’s tried desperately to bury. With help from old friends and his late friend’s son, Maverick will come out stronger in the end.
Kristin Myers from The Blast says that “Critics are calling Top Gun: Maverick the ‘movie event of the summer’”, and we tend to agree. Taking what we loved from the original 1987 high flying adventure and cranking it up to a thousand is about the only way to explain how truly mesmerizing this film is. Never has there been a Tom Cruise film that had me dreaming of doing what I just saw on the big screen, quite like Top Gun: Maverick, but maybe it’s just because I want to look as good in a flight suit as Tom himself. Check out this Twitter comment if you still don’t agree.
Finally saw Top Gun: Maverick today. What a super entertaining movie! Loved it – far, far better IMO than the original Top Gun!😍😍

Minions: The Rise of Gru
Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures have done it once again. They’ve taken a beloved family franchise and successfully turned it on its head, but in the best way possible. Let’s take a trip back to a time when things were simpler, or at least a time when they seemed simpler for a young wannabe super villain named Gru and his band of little yellow minions. After learning that the feared league of super villains, The Vicious 6, were looking to bring in new talent, young Gru decides that he has what it takes to be a super villain and heads down to the interview.
Through a series of very unfortunate events, including getting laughed out of the room, Gru isn’t taking their rejection sitting down. Now, after escaping the interview barely unscathed, and with the Vicious 6 hot on his trail, Gru and his minions must seek out help from the one person the Vicious 6 will soon learn to fear more than death itself, their former leader ‘Wild Knuckles’. Minions: The Rise of Gru is a fun family film that you can watch over and over again and never get enough. So grab your own little minions and catch this adorable film before it’s too late.

Minions: The Rise Of Gru has Illumination push their wackier sensibilities to deliver a proudly nonsensical movie that fully commits to its 70’s setting with style, a lot of really good slapstick, visual gags, fun set pieces and nice callbacks to the original Despicable Me. pic.twitter.com/yG4S5vlM3u

The Black Phone
Blumhouse Productions and Universal Pictures team up to bring you one of the most terrifying films of the year. In The Black Phone, every parents worst nightmare comes screaming to life on the big screen. Ethan Hawke stars as the titular villain of the story, known only as ‘The Grabber’, a child murderer who just kidnapped the wrong kid. While walking home from school one afternoon, Finney (Mason Thames) comes across a black van where a kindly man dressed in clown makeup asks him if he wants to see a magic trick, little did he know that the trick was his own disappearance. Locked in a soundproof basement with only a mattress and a disabled black phone on the wall, Finney must find a way out or risk becoming The Grabbers next victim.
In a review from SlashFilm, Eric Vespe says, “”The Black Phone” is more complete and effective than Derrickson’s previous horror movie “Sinister” and is the first feature adaptation of Joe Hill’s work that demands more big-screen Joe Hill adaptations. Hopefully, Hollywood answers that call. Our sentiments mirror those of Mr. Vespe, so Hollywood, if you’re listening, let’s take another look at the list of Joe Hill books and stories and just go ham with them. Don’t believe us, or agree? Checkout these Twitter posts and see if you change your mind.

The Black Phone. It was 14 years ago when I read Joe Hill’s original story “The Black Phone”? So I didn’t remember much about it, but this one hit the jackpot! It was more than just a horror movie. It was a good movie. pic.twitter.com/iZaEOFh4yq— HIDEO_KOJIMA (@HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN) July 3, 2022
If you have not seen the movie “The Black Phone”, go see it as soon as you can. You can thank me later..

THE BLACK PHONE: A bare knuckled, tightly scripted, and badass survival horror movie. Definitely the best thing Scott Derrickson’s ever directed.
Makes complete sense that Joe Hill’s dad is Stephen King, it reminded me of reading an SK short story.
Really loved it. pic.twitter.com/zsTL9zv0vm

Marcel the Shell with Shoes On
From A24 Studios comes the best family film of the year. Marcel the Shell with Shoes On is the story of a shell, his grandmother, and the dream of a family he doesn’t know. Separated from his family years earlier under mysterious circumstances, Marcel (Jenny Slate) and his grandmother Connie (Isabella Rossellini) spend their days talking about the past and watching their favorite television program, 60 minutes with Lesley Stahl. When documentary filmmaker Dean (director Dean Fleischer-Camp) discovers Marcel and his grandmother, he decides to make a short film about the young shell and post it online. Suddenly, Marcel is thrust into the limelight and on the journey of his life, the journey to finding his family!
In a review on RogerEbert.com, Carla Renata says it best, “‘Marcel the Shell with Shoes On’ will make your spirit soar and remind you to enjoy those you love, inhale a bit of fresh air, and respect the earth every second as though it were your very first time.” Marcel the Shell with Shoes On will have you holding your kids tighter than ever before and telling them just how much you love them. So, it’s time to grab your kids and experience this fantastic film through their eyes, the eyes of the innocent!
