Until then, make you sure check out our overnight content – starting with Alan’s wrap – and thanks for your company through the day.
7.04pm: Lord’s stands to clap Root off, with Foakes hanging back to let him soak in the applause. It’s been a gripping day: New Zealand collapsed in a heap against the new ball this morning to give England a chance but at 46 for 3 and 69 for 4, the Black Caps were strong favourites. But an exceptional innings from Joe Root – with support from a frenetic Ben Stokes and then a dogged Ben Foakes – means that they head into the fourth day with their noses in front. That said, they have an unusually long tail and New Zealand will believe that they can run through the lower order as long as they get Root early.
Rafail Ahamed S: “61 runs and 5 wickets ! It’s never boring when SENA teams face each other in their own conditions.”
Nauman: “Absolute masterclass from Root. Soaked up the pressure, dug deep till bowlers tired and then scored run-a-ball in last 1.5 hours.”
